Buying watercolour is a gamble. A colour looks glorious in a photograph, arrives, and turns out chalky, or dull, or nothing like the swatch. Multiply that by a hundred and you understand why most painters stick to the eight colours they already trust.

The ROSA Gallery Dot Card removes the gamble. All 100 colours in the ROSA Gallery watercolour range, laid out as dried drops on watercolour paper. Wet a brush, lift the colour, and see exactly what you'd be buying — granulation, transparency, wet-to-dry shift and all.

What you get

  • 100 colours — the complete ROSA Gallery watercolour palette. Not a selection, not a starter range. Everything.
  • Proper watercolour paper, so the colours behave honestly rather than sitting on thin card.
  • Extra-large dots. This is where most dot cards disappoint. There's enough paint in each drop for a full sketch — often several — not one thin swatch that runs out halfway.
  • Identical to the pans and tubes. What you test here is exactly the shade that arrives when you order the full size, whether as a 2.5ml pan or a 10ml tube.
  • Made in Ukraine by ROSA, developed in collaboration with professional artists.

What's actually in the range

Four numbers worth knowing before you spend anything on paint.

  • 38 granulating colours. Well over a third of the range settles into the texture of the paper rather than drying flat. If you've been curious about granulating watercolours but reluctant to spend on full pans to find out which ones you like, this is the cheapest possible way to try them all.
  • 44 single-pigment colours. Nearly half the range is made from one pigment only, which is what keeps two-colour mixes clean and bright instead of turning grey.
  • 21 colours based on natural pigments. Earths and minerals with the subtlety and variation that synthetic equivalents rarely manage.
  • 3 metallic shades, for highlights, lettering and finishing touches.

All of it testable on one sheet, for a fraction of the cost of finding out the hard way.

The paints you're testing

ROSA Gallery Professional Watercolours are developed to the requirements and recommendations of professional artists, using organic gum arabic and premium finely ground pigments.

  • Organic gum arabic gives perfect adhesion and even colour flow.
  • Finely ground pigments guarantee purity and transparency in every colour.
  • High pigment concentration delivers everything from an airy transparent wash to full opacity, depending only on water.
  • High lightfastness in every colour, achieved through selection and testing of pigments for intensity and permanence.
  • Traditional natural drying means easy dilution and instant rewetting — the dots lift the moment a damp brush touches them.

ROSA has been manufacturing professional artist materials in Ukraine since 1996.

Questions we get asked

How much paint is in each dot?

More than most dot cards give you. ROSA uses extra-large drops — enough in a single dot for a full sketch, and often several. You're not limited to one thin swatch.

Are these the same colours as the pans and tubes?

Yes, identical. The shade you test on the card is exactly what arrives when you order the full size, whether as a 2.5ml pan or a 10ml tube.

Which colours granulate?

38 of the 100 do. Rather than list them, we'd suggest testing — granulation looks quite different depending on your paper and how much water you use, so seeing it on your own materials is far more useful than a label.

Can I paint an actual picture with it?

You can. Plenty of painters use a dot card as a compact hundred-colour palette for a few sessions before swatching what's left. It's printed on watercolour paper, so it handles water properly rather than buckling.

Do the dots rewet easily?

Immediately. ROSA uses traditional natural drying, so a damp brush lifts the colour straight away — the same behaviour you get from ROSA pans.

What do I do once I've chosen my colours?

Order them as individual full pans or 10ml tubes, or pick the set closest to your selection. We stock individual ROSA Gallery pans so you can build a palette colour by colour rather than buying a fixed set.
